Good communication is essential to ensure that we all work together and understand our purpose and goals. Communication is the key to building relationships, great teamwork, efficiency, problem solving and conflict resolution.
Sometimes, when we're in a hurry we may miss an essential word or piece of information from our communication, this means that the message that we're trying to convey may get lost in transit. The CLF 7 Cs of communication will help to guarantee that all of your communications are positive, well received and understood by the person (or people) that it's intended for.
Organise your ideas in a logical order that will make sense to the reader.
Use simple language and avoid ambiguous or confusing messages or words.
Be respectful and considerate at all times - remember your manners!
Be specific about what you're trying to say. Use examples if you think that will help.
Check your spelling, grammar, punctuation and data. If you're not sure ask a colleague to read it through.
Ensure all necessary information is included. Finish all your sentences and sign your communication off in a positive manner.
Use the 7Cs to review your communication next time that you write an email or a text message or even have a conversation, it will help to ensure that your communication is received as you intend it to be.
Always think about whether you would understand the communication and how you would feel if you were to receive it.
