Skilful Questioning: The Beating Heart of Good Pedagogy

"Is my classroom a questioning classroom?"

The short article explores the art of questioning in the classroom and its impact upon learning. In my role as CLF's NQT Appropriate Body Lead, much of my time is spent observing early career teachers in their classrooms. Skilful questioning is something I always look out for and hope to see. I believe questioning underpins much of what takes place in the classroom, as well as being the most common form of interaction. Types of questions and strategies for their implementation should be carefully planned and in order to elicit the best possible learning outcomes, they should prompt debate and help develop the learning of ideas and understanding.
