The Trust Triangle

Frances Frei and Anne Morris are both leadership specialists from the Harvard Business school, they developed the trust triangle, built upon 3 values: (click on the highlighted area to find out more about each point).

Authenticity

Your team should be interacting with the 'real' you. Withholding your 'true self' puts a cap on trust and your ability to lead.

Logic

Your team should have faith in your judgement and competence.

Empathy

Your team will trust you when they feel that you genuinely understand how they feel and that you have their best interests at heart. If your team think that you care more about yourself than them they won't trust you enough to lead them.

When trust is lost it can generally be traced back to a breakdown in one of these 3 values. As individuals we will all be likely to be stronger in one area than another, but always keep this in mind when you are working with your team collectively and individually.

Trust means...

That you do what you say you are going to do, and if you can't do what you say you're going to do you communicate this to your team.

That you are your authentic self and you allow your team members to be their authentic selves too.

You provide feedback, guidance and support based on authenticity, empathy and logic.
